FAQ

What is social novel writing?
This is a social experiment that allows a community of creative people to collaborate on the creation of a new novel. You tell me what you want to have happen. I bring your ideas to life through the written word.

How does social novel writing work?
The process is very organic: the story, setting, and characters are constantly evolving based on the ideas, suggestions, and feedback that you give me after I post each scene or discussion point. Please post comments with any ideas you may have when you have them, regardless of whether or not they're related to my current post. Comment on your ideas about characters, setting, and plot line, what you think should happen next, how you think the novel should end, or anything else that occurs to you. I'll mesh everyone's ideas together as best I can and write the story.

I'm new to social novel writing. Are my comments welcome?
Absolutely! All comments and suggestions are welcome, whether you want to get involved long-term, are just passing through, or simply want to read along and see how we design and write a novel.

What sort of comments should I post?
Suggestions, half-formed ideas, your reading preferences, something that intrigues you, what you'd like to read but haven't seen out there, feedback on what we're doing - anything really. This is a completely organic process. Your thoughts and ideas are valuable, no matter what they are.

I have an idea or comment, but it's off topic. Should I post it?
Yes. Don't need to wait for me to bring up a subject. My most recent post and my questions within it may be about setting design, but if you have an idea for a character, plot, theme, or scene, please add it as a comment. Likewise, if we're writing chapter two and you have an idea for chapter twenty, please post it now. No aspect of a novel is independent of the others. An idea for a character often spurs plot or setting ideas, and those ideas often feed back into plans for character development, etc. Plot, characters, setting, and theme are all endlessly intertwined.

Why are you doing this?
I started writing as a teenager because the stories I wanted to read didn't exist yet. Since then, I've met so many creative people who are burning with ideas for stories, characters, and settings, but who lack the time or writing skills to bring their ideas to life. This blog is for you. Let's create the stories you want to read.
